"Argentina and Mercosur at a Crossroad: is there Light at the End of the Tunnel?"

The panel will discuss the following issues: i) current macroeconomic problems in Argentina, the array of solutions being considered (covering both the domestic and international dimensions) and the chances that they will succeed in preserving stability and promoting economic recovery and growth; ii) the potential impact of Argentina's problems on Brazil and feedback effects on Argentina; iii) the future of Mercosur, on the one hand threatened by current macroeconomic tensions while on the other, beginning promising negotiations with the US and the European Union.

Brainstorming Sessions

Brainstorming sessions will have a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Each speaker will have 45 minutes to present the paper. Each paper will have a discussant and each discussant will have 20 minutes to present their comments. There will be 40 minutes for general discussion.

Round Table

The Round Table will be held in Montevideo on Tuesday, December 18th, from 8.30 to 10.30 am at the Sheraton Montevideo Hotel. It will be open to the public and will have a duration of 2 hours. Each panelist will have 25 minutes for their presentation. For RIN participants attending the Round Table there will be a van departing from Punta del Este (Hotel Las Dunas) to Montevideo on Tuesday, December 18th at 7 am.
